Founded in 2009, David Cheney Photography is a award winning, full service, Dallas-based, high-end wedding and portrait photography studio available for regional, national, and international events.
We focus on capturing and creating a well rounded body of work for those that we are so honored to serve. We spare no effort to find those romantic times, artistic and creative wows, fun candids, documentaries storytelling moments, beautiful details, as well as stunning portraiture.
Over the years we have seen many fads come and go in the photographic world. We have chosen to remain steadfast in its efforts to produce the highest quality of work that stays fundamentally grounded in classicism. We capture the "realness" of events and digitally polish it.

Me and my associates focus on creating uniquely artistic images that maintain a firm foundation of timeless class and elegance. We pride ourselves on the lifelong relationship that we build and maintain. We aim to set our clients at ease by pushing the photographic process to the back of their minds. We make it about them and their unique connection, the moments they share, and the light. We all have different personalities and everyone connects in their own special way; we find what people love about life and exploit that.
Production + Design
We are masters in our field , and although we have a lifetime of education and hardened experience, we are always learning and excited explore new ideas and techniques. Every single image is personally hand touched and serious consideration is made to make each shot as strong as possible. We constantly consider the Elements of Art; Space, Color, Shape, Form, Value, Texture, and Line, while pushing compositional strength using the Principles of Design; Balance, Unity, Variety, Emphasis, Movement, Pattern, and Proportion.
Equipment + Software
Shooting and editing with only the highest quality equipment and software available, allows us to produce exceptionally high-quality images that will impress the most discerning of eyes. Currently we are shooting with the latest Canon mirrorless systems coupled with their unparalleled RF glass. We bring extensive, wireless, studio lighting systems to each and every event regardless of scope or granger.

Early Life and Education
I developed an early love for art and music from my very talented parents. My father is a brilliant musician and I grew up looking at him as my hero and he always kept music in our souls. My mother is a fantastic artisan who spent endless hours with me being creative and allowing me to always express my unique self without prejudice. All of this creativity and support led me to earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from East Texas A&M, Commerce Texas, in 1998. My education was quite unique, as I essentially completed a triple major in photography, painting, and ceramic sculpture. My college years were a transformative time, giving me the chance to study under incredible photographers, painters, sculptors, and printmakers. I even had the opportunity to learn alongside now-famous artists, Trenton Doyle Hancock and Robyn O’Neil, whom I'll always consider not only friends, but a continual source of inspiration. The program itself has a strong reputation, having produced talents like Rolling Stone’s lead photographer, Mark Seliger. Being part of such a creative environment fueled my passion and shaped the photographer I am today. This diverse background has shaped my artistic vision and allowed me to approach photography with a multifaceted perspective. Additionally, prior to graduation, I expanded my knowledge of artistic contexts by studying art history at the University of London in England, which deepened my appreciation for the historical influences that inform contemporary art and photography.
Career Journey & Company Founding
For 16 years, I shared my passion by teaching art and photography, inspiring students to explore their creativity and develop their own artistic voices. In 2009, I founded my photography business with my wonderful wife, Jenny, who is also co-owner of the company. Together, we bring a collaborative spirit to our work, blending my
creative visual energies and her amazing office management and book keeping skills to deliver exceptional photography services. Our partnership not only enhances our artistic output but also ensures a personalized experience for each client. In 2015, we made the decision that I would transition from teaching to fully focusing on my clients and expanding David Cheney Photography as a brand.
Family, Fun, & Inspiration
Beyond our professional endeavors, our family and friends are our greatest inspiration. We are extremely proud parents of our son, Aiden, who brings joy, laughter, amazement, and inspiration to our lives daily. He graduates high school May of 2025 and will be attending the prestigious Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. Our beloved dog, Blue, completes our family, often accompanying me on my outdoor adventures and travels. I enjoy writing songs, playing guitar, playing drums at my church, making art, and watching movies and having meals with Jenny. On the crazier side of things I'm always thrilled when I have the opportunity to hit the slops snowboarding or ripping trails on my enduro dirt bike.

It's more that just taking care of your clients, it's about truly caring, showing love, and being a friend you can trust and count on. It's about breathing inspiration into others through the experience we provide. We are so very lucky to be living in this time, right now, and we are thankful. Our goal is to create lasting memories for our clients, whether it’s a wedding, portraiture, or any other special events. We approach each project with a fresh perspective, ensuring that the final images reflect the unique essence of our clients.
Taylor
Lead Videographer
Pilot, horror movie buff, film nerd, lover of music. Taylor fell headfirst into the wedding industry in 2016 and has never looked back. He live in Highland Village, Texas, with his lovely and spirited wife Brittany, their Dog Juno, and Cat Whiskey. Recently, they’ve added a lot of plants to their little family. When not shooting or editing, you can find Taylor flying, trying new recipes, making BBQ, baking sourdough bread, or playing story-driven games online.
Leo
Level 4 Intern
Leo has been an integral part of our company, interning since 2018. His passion lies in capturing subtle, candid moments—those raw, emotional, and unexpected glimpses that tell a story. The joy and appreciation clients express for these moments only fuel his drive to seek them out. Under David’s mentorship, Leo has refined his stylistic approach, mastering techniques for both candid photography and advanced lighting control. When he's not behind the camera, he enjoys playing online games and spending time with friends.
Talen
Level 3 Intern
Talen is a passionate inter of ours with experience in wedding, sports, aviation, and drone photography. He began his journey capturing airshows and is quickly honing his skills through hands-on experience, training, and practice. Talen has developed a keen eye for storytelling through images. He is also expanding his expertise into videography and production, further enhancing his creative skill set and value to our company. When he’s not behind the camera, he enjoys riding dirt bikes, bowfishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Edwin
Executive Assistant / Minister
Edwin is an invaluable team member, serving as both an executive assistant and dedicated client concierge. From managing gear, lighting, and event logistics, he ensures that our wedding clients every need is met—from delivering drinks to assisting with last-minute tasks. Edwin goes above and beyond to create a seamless event. With extensive experience as an estate executive assistant, chef, teacher, and civil servant, he brings a high level of service and professionalism to every event he attends. Additionally, as an ordained minister, Edwin is available to officiate ceremonies in case of unexpected conflicts, making him a truly versatile asset to any wedding day.
